Our Mission

Penguin Ski Club 41 Maple Street Lincoln, NH 03251

Penguin Ski Club is a family ski club located in Lincoln, NH, in the heart of the White Mountain “Ski 93” region. It is a fun and relaxing home base for parents and children to ski, hike, bike and enjoy one of New Hampshire’s prime recreational areas. The club is located an easy walk from the downtown Lincoln and 3 miles from Loon Mountain ski area. Cannon, Bretton Woods and Waterville Valley are within easy drives. In the summer we share our building with actors in the North Country Center for the Arts.

The Penguin Ski Club building is the former Lincoln High School. It was purchased by the member families in 1968 and converted into a comfortable 120 bed facility. Some classrooms are now male and female dormitories. Others have been turned into two kitchens, a large dining room, living room, adult and teen TV rooms, sauna, and a ski & boot room. The old gym has been maintained as a wonderful place to play ping pong or a pick up game of basketball after skiing.

The Club is managed and operated by the member families. Each member family participates in at least one work weekend in October, hosts one weekend during the ski season, and serves as an officer, director or committee member. We do get help from a few valued outside contractors. A chef is contracted to prepared breakfasts and dinner during ski weekends and December and February school vacation weeks. We also contract with Loon Mountain to use the Loon Mountain shuttle service which provides weekend bus connections to the mountain.

We are currently looking for new member families. Families interested in membership are first asked to make three visits to the club as guests to meet club members and become familiar with the club operation One of the initial visits to the club may be for a work weekend in October. The other visits must be during the ski season. After filing an application new families are accepted as Associate Members for two years. Associates are allowed ski season use of the club and have no ownership or voting rights. Full membership is granted at the end the second Associate year by vote of the club Permanent membership.

Meals

The club boasts 2 full kitchens. One kitchen is reserved for members to prepare snacks and special meals while the other is used by our hired staff for cooking and serving everyone in our spacious family eating area.

A typical weekend will include continental breakfasts and a dinner to keep the whole family running for a full weekend of outdoor winter activities.

Often heard at the club are parents saying “not having to plan for meals is what makes a getaway weekend, truly a getaway.”

Lodging

Some of the school classrooms are now male and female dormitories. They consist of mostly bunk beds where both members and guests share space in a true “ski house” atmosphere.

The club has a total of 130 beds in 15 rooms:  7 Male Rooms, 6 Female Rooms and 2 family rooms.

Gymnasium

The school gym has been maintained as a wonderful place to let out your excess energy ( if you have any left ).   The kids and ambitious adults visit the gym to roller blade, skateboard, or to play a pick-up game of basketball or soccer, shoot some pool and play ping pong.

Relaxing

If you need time to wind down after skiing or may be just not up for a winter wonderland adventure this weekend, you can relax in the reading room. Or hide in the TV lounge and catch up on those old movies.

Social

The best part of the Penguin Ski Club is our extended family also known as our dear friends.  This camaraderie is found all over the club from the kid’s game room, the teen room to the adult tavern.

“I have been a member for 27 years.  I love that I always have someone to ski with.  I don’t have to cook all weekend.  Our cooks provide well balanced meals.  No cleaning up after everyone. A full size gymnasium for children and adults.  A fun relaxed atmosphere to hang out with great families!  Come on over to check out the Club! ” – Barbara Last
